How to Float through Bloat
Bloat and it’s companions: burps, gurgles and farts
Jin Shin Jyutsu practitioners lovingly call these the “body broadcasts”. But nobody laughs when they com calling in the body, except maybe young children!
There are two kinds of bloat in the body: gas and liquid. Foods that are often associated with gas include brassicas, like broccoli and cauliflower and beans. Many of our delicate digestive systems are no longer friendly with spicy, oily, or overly acidic or even dairy products and may experience heartburn or GERD, sometimes requiring a course of medicine to reduce discomfort. But the disharmony is still very active. I can report that I struggled with IBS for years. But consistently applying Jin Shin Jyutsu is harmonizing my delicate gut!
Here are a couple of simple flows to help with indigestion and eliminate bloat and it’s friends:
Sit comfortably, breathing normally in AND OUT … cross your arms at the wrists and place LEFT hand on RIGHT INNER THIGH above the KNEE; RIGHT hand ABOVE THE KNEE, INNER THIGH. We call this Safety Energy Lock (SEL) “High 1” as it is near the SEL 1, inside of knee, called The Prime Mover because it gets things moving! You can do this flow for a few minutes or up to an hour if it feels good to you. I often do it while lying on my side in bed. Sometimes, I fall asleep!
The digestive organs most known for indigestion and bloat symptoms are stomach, gall bladder, and small intestine. But you can add liver, pancreas, and large intestine. In other words the whole of our digestive system. So here are two more flows that give support and relief:
Hold your middle finger, which harmonizes the Gall Bladder. OR you can place your RIGHT HAND on your forehead just above your eye (SEL 21) and your LEFT HAND on the BACK of your NECK (SEL 12) about an inch from your spine. Then reverse.
HOLD your THUMB, which harmonizes Spleen and Stomach.
If you are experiencing an acute or chronic condition, see your doc or naturopath (or both). I’ve found that applying daily self-help flows, even when there are no discomforts, has strengthened my digestion and reduced incidents of bloat and it’s friends! Practice daily and you will GET TO KNOW YOURSELF through Jin Shin Jyutsu!
